Gothic Costumes
wonder the amount of people have thought about dressing in Gothic Costumes for Halloween. Medieval costumes have always been popular along with dressing in Gothic costume was quite the rage back in the late 1970's. Gothic costumes had been influenced by the many Gothic fiction and horror films of history. The Goth movement of the 1970's had a profound effect on the particular youth of many countries. The Goths, as they were known as back then, listened to Goth music and also dressed in the dark gloomy clothes portrayed in many of the old vampire movies. The Gothic bands that came out during this time were a huge affect on the clothes, hair and make-up which are all an important part of creating the actual Gothic costume. The stage halloween costumes worn by these bands had a profound influence on his or her fans. There were no arranged rules about what a Gothic costume had to be and it permitted for an individual to be experimental and in addition express their inner creative imagination. The popular colors used in Medieval costumes were black, crimson and dark red. They were created out of satin and velvet and frilly lacey type materials. Girls would fashion their outfits after the characters portrayed inside vampire horror films. The application of black fishnet stockings and gloves were very popular among the young women. Men liked to include an elegant and frilly shirt like the types that were worn by the intimate poets in the creation of costume clothing. Many Goth costumes were through with the addition of accessories such as a studded receiver, silver buckles, silver jewelry and of course the classic Gothic chokers. Both males and females wore white make-up and emphasized their eyes with mascara as well as black eye liner. Red-colored, purple and black lip stick was popular and of course black fingernail polish was employed by men and women. Each year there is a gathering of Goths in England in the seaside resort of Whitby. Whitby is the town where Bram Stoker set his original Dracula horror history. During this gathering they show each of the old Dracula movies and many of the newer vampire films for example "Interview with a Vampire" adapted from the book by Anne Rice and "Beetlejuice" through Tim Burton. Goth bands have constantly added their music for this cultural scene and influenced the whole Gothic culture. Grooving to the music created by these kinds of bands is a large part of fun and entertainment loved by the Goth culture. The Goth rings created had wonderful titles such as Killing Joke, The southern part of Death Cult, Dead Could Dance, Sisters of Mercy and one of the most popular has been Siouxsie and the Banshees and The Cure. Many of the young people who chose to represent the distinctive Goth look are not appreciated by their older people and peers. In Fact, these kinds of young people were made exciting of and bullied about. Many of the youth who put on Gothic style were inferior about how they looked. These same young people felt that the Medieval look gave them a personality they could hide behind as well as boosted their self confidence so they could deal with daily life. Your late 1970's culture tended to force a need to look best and the majority of young people were all trying to look like fashion models, but dressing in Gothic outfits allowed for the expression associated with individuality. Today, the Goths are nevertheless around, but their numbers get depleted. Most of these people have outgrown the need to express themselves in Gothic fancy dress costumes in daily life. They have many of the same friends and revel in sharing the good old occasions through photographs and attending special Goth gatherings.
